Who We Are

“The gospel is not a doctrine of the tongue, but of life. It cannot be grasped by reason and memory only, but it is fully understood when it possesses the whole soul and penetrates to the inner recesses of the heart.”

- John Calvin

The Reformers stated that the church is creatura verbi — a creation of God’s Word. We believe that it’s God’s Word that gives us definition as a church, along with the heartbeat and breath for life in our community.

We are a Christian Church

that believes in the Bible as the infallible Word of God. All that we believe are grounded in and come from what we read in the Old and New Testament Scriptures. We believe that the Apostles’, Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds are succinct and accurate summaries of what’s found in the Bible. We are Reformed in our theology, and all of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flow out of these biblical doctrines.

We are a Confessional Church

as a member church in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), an evangelical denomination that holds to the historic Reformed doctrines of grace and to presbyterian church government. Our particular confession is found through the words and teachings captured in the Westminster Confession of Faith.

Sun Kwak

Lead Planter
Sun received his call to ministry during his time at UCSD, where he began to learn of his engraftment into the story of Jesus. He went on to continue his studies at Westminster Seminary California, where he received his M.Div. He serves as the planting pastor of Redeemer, where he hopes to encourage a deep-rooted devotion to God’s Word and his gospel story. Sun thanks the Lord each day for his wife and truest partner in crime Judy. Together, they have set roots in Camarillo and brave daily adventures of parenting their four littles Kalen, Jones, Rowe, and Cohen. They love living here, being a part of this church, and meeting new people through this unique community.

Jon Kim

Assistant Pastor
Jon was born in Philadelphia, PA, and was raised in Northern California. He was called into faith in high school, when reading through Romans 8. There, he was first gripped by God’s sovereign grace that led him to ministry. He later sensed that call into ministry during his undergraduate studies at Eternity Bible College. Jon received his M.Div at Westminster Seminary California. Prior to coming to Camarillo, Jon served as the youth director at New Life Presbyterian Church in Orange County. Jon serves as the assistant pastor at Redeemer. Jon has been married to Jasmine since 2020, and they live together in Camarillo with their beloved Frenchies Ube and Taro.
